Rotaid makes AED quickly deployable

"Telerex always thinks along with us"
An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) must be quickly and available 24/7, whether in a shopping street, at a gas station, or on the beach. Therefore, Rotaid AED Cabinets designed a unique, recognizable AED cabinet that can be opened with a single twist. Telerex contributes to the deployability of AEDs with the right power supplies.
In the event of cardiac arrest, the first six minutes are crucial for the victim's chances of survival. During this time, bystanders must call 112, start resuscitation, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED). The faster this AED is used, the greater the victim's chance of survival.
"In those six minutes, you don't want to have to think about how to open a cabinet," says Jeffrey Bosdriesz, marketing manager at Rotaid.
Round AED Cabinet
"Our Rotaid will become the global symbol for an AED," Bosdriesz continues. "The shape is based on that of the lifebuoy: everyone knows what it is and how to use it." With now over 50,000 AED cabinets installed in more than 65 countries, Rotaid is well on its way to achieving that mission.
According to Rotaid, AEDs should always be easily findable and accessible. And preferably available 24/7 for everyone. "Often they are hung indoors, in places that are locked in the evening, making them inaccessible," says Dani Wientjens, project manager at Rotaid.
To realize this vision, the company from Venray has been developing its round AED cabinets for more than 15 years. The latest model, the Rotaid 24/7, is a connected solution with an integrated AED management system. This model sends notifications when the AED needs to be checked. This way, the owner is always sure of the AED's deployability. Due to this, and many other applications, this is the most reliable AED cabinet on the market at the moment.
Heating Element
The 'outdoor models' of Rotaid are also equipped with a heating element. "If the AED's battery freezes, there is a risk that the AED will no longer function properly or at all," Bosdriesz explains. "It can also happen that the electrodes no longer stick well if the gel has been frozen."
Thanks to the heating element in the Rotaid cabinets, temperatures down to -20℃ are not a problem. A 24VDC power supply from MEAN WELL provides the necessary voltages and currents. This power supply is also needed for the motherboard in the AED cabinet in the case of the Rotaid 24/7.
Power Supplies on Demand
An important requirement that Rotaid sets for the power supplies is that they can deliver a peak power of 90 watts. Bosdriesz: "In operation, 80 watts is needed for the heating element, but 90 watts at startup." Additionally, Rotaid sets high standards for the reliability of the power supply to ensure that the heating element always works and the AED is ready for use.
These requirements led to the choice of MEAN WELL power supplies years ago. For reliable delivery of the power supplies, Rotaid relies on Telerex. "We prefer not to keep large stocks. Telerex does that for us. We can then simply order the power supplies. Whenever we want, and in the quantities we want," Bosdriesz explains. "And if the MEAN WELL power supplies are not available for any reason, Telerex has an alternative on hand. They always think along with us."
Local Partner
"For us, it is also nice that we can switch with a local partner, instead of a manufacturer abroad. The contact with Telerex is just very good. The delivery is fast and the agreements made are clear. And if there is something, it helps that they are an hour's drive from our office." - Dani Wientjens, project manager Rotaid
